7:00 Film

Tulsa’s nonprofit Circle Cinema, located on U.S. Route 66, is proud to participate in the BOK Center’s Mother Road Revival. The event is a weekend celebration of Americana and folk music that pays homage to Route 66. On Thursday, September 8 at 5:30 pm a reception will be held in the Circle Cinema with live folk music from +BANDELIER+, and Route 66 documentary films by Michael Wallis shown in the adjacent Screening Room. Michael Wallis and other Route 66 personalities will be in attendance. At 7:00 pm Michael Wallis will introduce our main feature of the evening, Percy Adlon’s Route 66 film, Bagdad Café.

Michael Wallis is an award winning historian, journalist and voice actor who specializes in the American West. His book Route 66: The Mother Road made him an expert in the iconic road.  His work has been published extensively in newspapers and magazines, including Time, Life, People, Smithsonian, The New Yorker and The New York Times. As a voice actor, he has narrated several historical documentaries and even played the role of Sheriff in Disney’s Cars.

The film Bagdad Café is named after the famous Route 66 café that inspired it. It tells the story of a German couple whose car breaks down in the middle of the California desert. After arguing, the wife walks out. She ends up at a flea-bitten truck stop that is the second home to a group of odd characters, and she begins to transform their lives.

MOTHER ROAD REVIVAL 2016 events at Circle Cinema begin at 5:30 pm on Thursday, September 8, 2016. The film Bagdad Café will be introduced by Michael Wallis at 7:00 pm. For more information and showtimes call 918-585-FILM(3456) or visit Tickets $10 for reception and film admission.
