BBC Shakespeare Film Series – King Lear

Circle Cinema is offering a free series of Shakespeare films from BBC library for screening this April to commemorate the 400th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s death. The five films offered in this series range from a highly acclaimed 1963 production of AS YOU LIKE IT starring a very young Vanessa Redgrave to an absolutely brilliant update of THE TAMING OF THE SHREW where Kate is bad tempered Tory politician.

Wed, April 20 at 7:00 – KING LEAR 1998 150 Min- Starring the magnificent Ian Holm, this production from for the National Theater is done in a sparse modernistic style that was hailed by The New York Times theater critic as the greatest of the 50 Lears he had seen over the decades.
